Information, insight and inspiration for your quest.
- If reading materials are piling up in your office, try this tip. When you receive a magazine, newsletter or trade publication, go to the contents page, identify the articles of interest to you, tear the articles out and pitch the rest.
- Consider convening a group of personal advisors for a business idea you’re considering, a community initiative, or your career development path. A board of advisors can challenge you and help keep you on track.
- When selecting a mentor, choose someone you respect and would like to emulate. Your mentor also needs to be someone you trust with sensitive business and personal information.
-
One way to determine if your organization is ready to apply entrepreneurial behavior in the workplace is to test the waters. At an upcoming meeting or during a small group discussion, mention a new idea or innovative approach. Then, observe the reaction (e.g. eye contact, body language, verbal comments).
- When thinking strategically about your life, be sure to consider external environmental factors such as world events, popular culture, and emerging developments in technology. This will keep you from working in a vacuum.
- For fast stress relief, take a few slow, deep breaths. As you exhale, imagine yourself releasing all the stress and negativity. The extra flow of oxygen into your brain and lungs has a calming affect and helps you focus better.
- If you and your electronic handheld device or Pocket PC ever get separated, a “Reward if Found” or “Contact me if Found” message in your address book or under owner information could speed up the reunion.
- When attending a networking event, you can use the back of business cards to jot down notes including details you want to remember from your conversations, the name of the event and the date.
- Before creating computer visuals like PowerPoint for a presentation, consider these three factors: your audience, your confidence using technology and the venue.
- If you're thinking about working from a home office, carefully assess these four factors: the job, the organization, your work style and your home environment.
- Journaling is a way of expressing yourself through writing. The only tools you need are a pen and paper. If you prefer using the computer, you may want to try a journaling software program.
- Traveling can drain your energy. Recharge your battery and relax by enjoying a few comforts from home. Consider packing a scented candle, air freshener, tea bags or your favorite music CD.
- Determining one’s purpose in life is something many of us grapple with. You must invest the right amount of time doing introspective work and remember that it’s a process of self-discovery.
- Your calendar is an excellent visual tool for planning. It offers a big picture view of your workload. Always look ahead to the next week and month. This will keep you from being surprised by upcoming deadlines.
- Our values are passed on to future generations through those we influence during our life, and the reminders that we leave behind (e.g. traditions, literature, music, philanthropic endeavors). Consider how the values you promote daily will help shape our future.
- Daily affirmations can reinforce your life strategy. Repeat your selected affirmations throughout the day (verbally or silently) or review during your meditation, prayer or inspirational reading time.
- Conduct a gratitory™ - an inventory/list of all the experiences, people and aspects of life that you are thankful for. To begin your gratitory, take out a sheet of paper, think over your life and list all the things for which you are grateful.
- One of the first steps toward a life of gratitude is appreciating who you are and your unique contribution to the world. Learn how to love yourself.
- When we acknowledge our true feelings, we gain greater insight about ourselves and enhance our ability to communicate honestly with others.
- When we feel confident and have good mental clarity we make better-informed decisions. Before finalizing a decision, especially an important one, assess the state of your self-image and your ability to think clearly and logically.
